Steve is a Registered Nurse in both Adult Nursing and Mental Health, a qualified Best Interest Assessor and is also trained to offer Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). Steve has undertaken a number of roles since registration where he believes he has made a positive and significant impact on the health and wellbeing of those people he has provided care with. These include leading a Forensic Mental Health Service that broke new ground in meeting the needs of people involved in the Criminal Justice System.
Steve also worked on a national project to secure employment for men in Prison with Mental Health problems, which was presented to Lord Ramsbotham at the House of Lords.Steve has previously worked as the Director of Nursing and Operations for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB).
He has a wealth of experience and expertise in Quality and Safety, and his passion is to ensure that care offered to the local population is of exceptional quality, safe, inclusive, compassionate and effective.Steve leaves his role as the Chief Nurse and Executive Director for Safety and Quality at Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust to join Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber as the Chief Nurse (April 2024).

You may know from Twitter #TODAYiRAN that Steve is a keen runner, raising money for the Whizz-Kidz charity, for which his son is an ambassador. Steve has run all over the world in various races with his highlights being Jamaica & Cyprus, where he took a place on the podium.Steve also works for the Gambian Police Force as an athletics coach.
